La Jolla Music Society is one of the most prestigious and highly respected performing arts presenters in the United States. Our winter season presentations showcase a rich variety of classical, jazz, global roots, spoken word, family, and dance programming, at its state-of-the-art venue, The Conrad, as well as off-site venues throughout San Diego. In addition to our winter season and award-winning Learning & Engagement Programs, La Jolla Music Society also produces SummerFest, a renowned four-week chamber music festival featuring world-class artists and ensembles performing an array of concerts and programs curated by SummerFest Music Director, Inon Barnatan.
Summary
The Digital Marketing Associate works directly with the Marketing and Sales Director to execute digital marketing plans designed to build audiences, create brand awareness, and achieve ticket revenue goals. This position is ideal for an energetic, creative digital expert who is passionate about music and the performing arts, excels at storytelling, leans into challenges, and thrives on connecting people. The position will support all social media activities, create digital content, and support the company website. Additional responsibilities will include general marketing department tasks such as budget tracking, community outreach, and event support. The Digital Marketing Associate acts as a representative for the organization to proactively create and maintain relationships with artists, community partners, and works cooperatively with other La Jolla Music Society departments.
JOB DESCRIPTIONFULL TEAM
- Director of Communications, Marketing, and Guest Services, Communications and PR Director, Database and Analytics Manager, Marketing and Sales Director, and Graphic Designer.
- Also works closely with the Box Office and Guest Services team.
SOCIAL MEDIA AND DIGITAL MARKETING (60%)
- Under the direction of the Marketing and Sales Director, create and maintain social media and digital marketing strategies and tactics to expand brand reach and increase ticket sales.
- Create a plan for radical growth of followers on all platforms.
- Create compelling digital assetsincluding video content, photography, graphics, and copyin collaboration with Marketing / Artistic / Learning & Engagement departments, artists, Resident Companies, Visiting Presenters, community partners, and more.
- Ensure that digital content is within the guidelines of artists’ contracts, as well as within the voice, style, and brand guidelines of La Jolla Music Society.
- Examine the LJMS YouTube channel to develop tactics that increase viewership of videos, reach new audiences, and spread awareness of La Jolla Music Society.
- Enhance awareness of the broad scope of the organization beyond the stage, such as Learning & Engagement programs, the Resident Companies, our history, behindthescenes magic, volunteers, staff, Board, and more through moving, original storytelling.
- Work closely with digital marketing partners, Marketing colleagues, and tools such as Google Analytics to report on effectiveness of digital campaigns and make ongoing suggestions for improvement.
WEBSITE (20%)
- Under the supervision of the Marketing and Sales Director, update website content including text, images, videos using Word Press CMS.
- Responsible for ensuring that the images and copy used to promote concerts are the most uptodate, approved assets from artists and their management.
- Create and edit new pages based on institutional needs.
- Collaborate with external web support teams to implement layout changes, ensure content is optimized for SEO, follows accessibility best practices, and troubleshoot issues as needed.
BUDGETING (10%)
- Assist in tracking department expenses in department budget spreadsheet.
- Code invoices and submit them to the Finance for payment with close attention to accuracy.
GENERAL MARKETING (10%)
- Work prescheduled Concierge Desk shifts at The Conrad and/or offsite venues to greet patrons and share information on upcoming programming.
- Conduct community outreach to promote attendance at concerts. Outreach may include ticket promotions, complimentary passes, attending networking events, and more.
- Assist with scheduling the delivery and pick up of programs for offsite concerts.
- Collect and archive content for marketing purposes.
- In conjunction with the Public Relations and Communications Director, proofread and edit marketing materials.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven, professional writing skills. Cover letter and professional or educational work samples required.
- Experience working with WordPress (1+ years required).
- Proven experience with video content creation and video editing software (please include links to portfolios or personal websites in application).
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud suite is a plus.
- Work with Hootsuite or similar social media scheduling tools desired.
- Experience working with performing arts organizations and/or the nonprofit sector is ideal.
- Willingness to regularly work nights and weekends.
