Essential Functions And Duties
- Assist and lead teachers in carrying out K-5 music curriculum through facilitating bi-monthly meetings, Professional Development, classroom visitations and mentoring when needed.
- Collaborates and facilitates opportunities to work with the Fine Arts department for scheduling district-wide events (i.e. Fine Arts Festival).
- Works cooperatively with district administrators and staff in continuous evaluations, development and implementation of K-5 music curriculum.
- Identifies and creates opportunities for professional development with respect to workshops, clinics, conferences, conventions, and appropriate in-service programs related to K-5 music education in cooperation with the district Professional Development Coordinator.
- Recommends K-5 music curriculum changes to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for presentation to be adopted by the School Board.
- Serves as liaison for K-5 music staff in communication with the School Board, Superintendent, and Central Office staff.
- Works with principals/Central Office Administration to recruit and maintain certified music educators.
- Consults with the Central Office and building principals on the Fine Arts Budget and its use.
- Participates with music staff, principals, and Central Office in the identification of instructional materials, equipment and other needs in the process of the budgeting.
- Maintains a district-wide digital inventory of elementary music instruments, materials, and equipment.
- Reports incidents (i.e. damage, theft, misuse of equipment, improper storage) for the purpose of maintaining inventory, fiscal records, and establishing replacement cycles.
- Assists in establishing positive relationships with professional, civic, service and parent organizations in the community.
- Participates and provides interest, involvement and opportunities for students in community arts programs.
- Maintains membership in state and national music organizations (i.e. NAFME, ACD, etc) and attends at least one music workshop or convention (i.e. MMEA) per year
Qualifications
- No District Coordinator position can be held by a teacher who does not have specific teacher certification for the specific content area. (i.e. Performing Arts Coordinator must have Music certification).
Physical Demands
- Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
- Exerts 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
- Prolonged periods of working on a computer.
- Sufficient vision to read printed material, see distant objects with clarity, and identify and distinguish objects.
- Sufficient hearing to hear conversations in person and on the telephone, and hear sounds clearly up to 20 feet. Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone, and in addressing groups.
- Requires occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching for extended periods of time.
- The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and is generally a hazard free environment.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
Salary: $5,000 stipend
